My car is in the garage for its annual MOT so I didn’t venture far today and took the dogs to the fields behind the church. Its been about 2 years since I walked them this way and since the last time the graveyard has had some considerable gardening and clean up, before there was high thorn bushes and only the highest grave stone could be seen. I found this grave which I think is very unusual. At first I thought it was a tree stump with a small wall round it, then I thought it was a tree that had been used as a headstone and then on very close inspection I found it to be stone carved in the shape of a tree stump with bark, because of the aging and the moss covering it wasn’t until I touched it that I was convinced. The grave dates back to the late 1800s |
