As you know signs are one of my pet photo subjects and therefore an enthusiast such as myself gets uncontrollably excited when I turn a corner and see this in front of me. In fact there are even more signs than can be seen in the picture, if I change my angle you can see the ones obscured behind but it’s a double edge sword because achieving that means some of these are obscured. I spent a little time to give you the best representation.

Driving back from my dads tonight I noticed that the roads are very quiet and as I came to the small row of shops they too were in darkness apart from the chip shop, bright and welcoming for those on the last bus from town. Jump off and grab some fish and chips and eat them on the walk home.

By way of a touch of experimenting I parked myself on the local traffic island and took a load of pictures, originally I wanted to do a panorama view around the island but because of the huge differences in available light it didn’t work out. I concentrated then on smaller segments of the road and the vehicles wizzing round on a Friday night.

Here is the Number 2 bus which appears to be going the opposite direction round the island.

Mark is a Solihull based sculptor who has a show at The Solihull Art Complex, the private view was this evening I have been looking forward to taking this photograph for a few months I was there in April when Mark fired the kiln

Doing the 365 project has taught me there are potential photographs everywhere even the most unlikely of views and places. Trying to find that something special for the day can involve many shots before I’m happy or like yesterday many photos to choose from. This was my first and only click of the day.

It was the final home game of the first class cricket season today, I went with my grandsons and my camera, I was particularly interested in some photographs of the ground before the bulldozers move in for a major redevelopment. During the break we went to get food and drink and I found lots of impromptu games taking place under the grandstands, a mixture of rules, abilities and ages, all using huge rubbish bins for wickets. Nothing has changed from when I used to take part as a schoolboy when rain stopped play although we didn’t have our heros protecting us.

Looking at my previous 365 photographs I realised that I rarely visit the city centre of Birmingham, let’s put it another way when I have gone to the city I’m in a hurry so there are very few pictures from there. I pass these buildings often on the Bristol Road but because of the amount of traffic I cant pull over to take the shot, today I took advantage of a quiet weekend road.

Jeremy Has Sketched The Great and The Very Good

Jeremy doesn’t live near me so only visits our park occasionally (come to think of it I never visit his park – must do) He is a classical musician and used to play with the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and in the orchestra at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon. He is a compulsive artist always with his sketch book and pencil in hand and generally he wears a beret which adds to the scene. He told me he would always be sketching from the orchestra pit while there was a brake in the music; he captured all the musicians, soloists and great actors over many years. Can you imagine the content of his many sketch books? I have been talking to him about exhibiting this work and it would certainly make a very interesting Artist Talk as part of the show.

Not Enough Goal Celebrations

Not Enough Goal Celebrations

I went down the Villa tonight for the first home game in the inaugural Europa League 1-0 down from the away leg we won 2-1 on the night but failed to progress in the competition because Rapid Vienna scored that all important away goal (which is worth double if the tie is drawn)
