One thing that the 60s town and highways planners did get right was to re-erect this 1817 Blowing Engine on a traffic island at the start (or end) of the journey on the motorway in Birmingham formerly used at the Netherton ironworks of M W Grazebrook now decorates Dartmouth Circus. A tribute to the famous Scottish engineer James Watt, his business partner and son of Birmingham Mathew Boulton, and the heavy industry of Birmingham and the surrounding Black Country area. |
I remember seeing this while on the bus going round the new large traffic island in the 60s but over a period of time the surrounding planted trees and shrubs have hidden it from the drivers and passengers speeding on their various onward routes |
