It was the final match of the cricket season today, and in a final quirk of the fixtures the second place team plays the third place team The winners are promoted to division One the losers will stay in division 2 for at least another year. |
The game ebbed and flowed backwards and forwards all afternoon as you can see from the scoreboard behind, my team Four Oaks Saints scored 216 (which we thought under the conditions was a good score) and Lyndworth replied with 174. Towards the end they were in the pound seats and with a few big blows they would have won, however, 3 very quick wickets finished the game (in fact so quick that the scoreboard wasn’t updated) Afterwards the team began to gather in the middle and soaked up the feeling of achievement and talked about near misses and heartbreak on previous occasions. Its about 10 years since the club gained a promotion so we hope this is a start up the league ladder again. |
