Todays photo probably isn’t much but the story behind it is.

In brief Birmingham City Council launched a new website which is expensive and well not very good, and the politicians put a positive spin on wasting our money.

It was first bought to my attention by Jon Bounds on his blog Birmingham: Its Not Shit

He noticed the councils new Whats On page had nothing on it, I did my own research and found out if you don’t know the council jargon you couldn’t find telephone numbers, opening and closing times, etc, the information the community require from their City: quickly. They even hide the link to pay your council rates (uuuuh)

And then a few days later Stef Lewandowski went further by say in his blog let’s build our own website and show them how the community would design it.

so he got a venue and assembled volunteers, coders, designer, flickrers etc. I got down there well after 7pm and they were still keyboarding away.

Follow the new BCCDIY site at http://bccdiy.com/ and compare with the official site http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/

Well done Stef and everyone connected
